Volunteering

Salam.

Last 2 weeks I went for volunteering as a "vision guardian" to screen around 750 refugee children. The children are stayed from all around Wilayah Persekutuan, but the school located at Sentul. To be honest that was my first memorable "volunteering" for the past 3 years here in Malaysia.
When I arrived and look around the school, what were in my mind was "this isn't school". Yes, the school isn't what school looks used to be. It looks like an apartment or here in Malaysia they called as "rumah susun". But the excitement shown by the students what made me realized whatever the school looks like, the more important is what they gain from the school.
This event was organized by SOS or Save One Sight society. I've been volunteering with them two times. And it was always be my unforgettable memories. So, we were only 13 people. 5 of us are from 3rd year, and the other are from 4th year. And yes, we managed to help the teachers to screen hundreds and hundreds students. We didn't do the "actual" process of vision screening, as its quite impossible for us to teach the teachers to do the processes. So, we only helped the teacher to check the Visual Acuity of the students, which is the very basic of the vision screening. And, from the result, those who have low or worse Visual Acuity will be referred to our clinic in UKM to do the complete eye screening.
